Methuselah is one of the oldest leaving trees and grows at the elevation of 9800 ft above sea level in Bristlecone Pine Forrest in the Californian White Mountains.
Together with other ancient pines in the forest, Methuselah survived over 4000 years. As centuries pass and the trees are battered by the elements, they become sculpted into astonishing shapes. While most of their wood is dead, growth continues through a thin layer of bark. When all life finally ceases, the snags stand for a thousand years or more. The dense wood is slowly eroding away rather than decaying.
To protect Methuselah from humans its exact location has not been publicly disclosed.(Nataša Prosenc)
