Andrea Knezović is a visual artist born in 1990 in Zagreb, Croatia. In 2014 she graduated with a B.A. in Visual Arts at A.V.A-Academy of Visual Arts, Ljubljana. Her field of interest expands to performing arts, mixed media, video and photography. Currently based between Ljubljana and Zagreb, Knezović is one of the artist whose practice is closely related to exploring threshold states and ambiguities within social context. She uses art practice as instrument for reconstructing social paradigms through imaginative visual vocabulary as well as conceptual framework. Her works bear strong political references, mainly engaging questions of social identities. Knezović's works are characterized by the use of everyday objects in a middle class atmosphere in which identity recognition plays an important role. By demonstrating the omnipresence of a corporate world, she uses a visual vocabulary that addresses social and political issues.
Andrea Knezović’s work underlines the questions of the relationship between existentialism and creative conception. Her primary interest is to play with symbolic language and intuitive narrative, while reflecting the existent environment and it conditions. Emphasizing the importance of the process and its impact on the material outcomes, Knezović directs her work underscoring the significance of the artistic rites of passage; where the personal impression holds the crucial role in establishing sincere communication between artwork and the spectator. Creating in any contexts demands constant investigation of the means that surround us, looking through a prism of an artist, Knezović through her work deliberately invites the sentiment of indeterminacy which is translated into general atmosphere of her artistic expression.
She is constantly interacting with and reflecting on her surroundings, working with bio-politics, body-politics and liminality. Trying to find a balance between the conceptual and the real, Knezović's works always have an emotional as well as a contemporary social component.
