'900 m3 Sand' is a video installation created as a response to the specific site, a 1st world war cavern on mount Sabotin near Nova Gorica, Slovenia. The volume corresponds to the volume of the cavern dug out by soldiers mostly by hand in the course of 2 years. On Nika Oblak & Primož Novak's request a digger in a quarry composed a 900 m3 large pile of sand in a day. A low male voice takes the viewer to a state of mind that would enable him to erase all thoughts referring to military and hatred from his memory. Video is part of the art project And Here We Are which tackle the issue of military defence/surveillance of an individual and the influences of military structures on people's everyday lives. The video was created on the basis of a group performance in the urban environment Bellum contra solem of the Fusnet Association, which was staged in a block settlement in Nova Gorica on the summer solstice in 1991. The arrival of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse in fantastic futuristic costumes - the Conquest, War, Hunger, and Death - in a Ljubljana sand pit illustrates the time around the declaration of Slovenian independence and the break away from the Yugoslav state.
