Sub Persona is a research project that focuses on the importance of forests its ecosystemic, economic, recreational and cultural functions, which are too often taken for granted by humans. From human habitation to the present, resource exploitation and deforestation have led to a decrease in the extent, quality, and condition of the self-regulatory mechanisms of the forest ecosystem. In the past complex inter-species relationships and energy flows have enabled the forest to successfully adapt to the effects of climate change, such as natural disasters. Forestry scholars study the functioning of self-regulatory mechanisms in the remains of the pristine forest - in forest reserves. Their discoveries are guiding the management of the managed forests, as these are more vulnerable to the effects of climate change, compared to primeval forests. Sub Persona emphasizes the shared responsibility of humanity to understand forest ecosystems with modern methods and to develop sustainable management techniques that are based on the interplay of all key functions of the forest.
