Polonca Lovšin is an architect and artist with degrees in architecture (1996) and fine art (2001) from the University of Ljubljana and a doctorate in visual art from Bauhaus University in Weimar, Germany (2015). Her artistic practice explores alternative ways of living and acting in an age when the habitability of our planet is under threat. Her projects are normally long-term works based on interdisciplinary research and, in most cases, collaboration. Lovšin has exhibited her work in numerous solo and group shows both in Slovenia and internationally, and held artist residencies in Europe and the United States. In 2011, she was the recipient of the Liberal Academy’s Golden Bird Award, and in 2018, of a Rihard Jakopič Commendation, one of Slovenia’s highest honors in the field of visual art. She is a co-founder of the Obrat Cultural and Art Association, which focuses on the politics of public space and participation; the association’s long-term project Beyond a Construction Site (Ljubljana, 2010–2022) received particular acclaim. She is an associate professor of visual arts at the  University of Primorska. She lives in Ljubljana.
