Zora Stančič was born in 1956 in Štrbe, Bosnia and Herzegovina. She completed her primary education and attended the Secondary School of Design in Ljubljana. In 1984, she graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo, and in 1990 she earned a Master’s degree in Printmaking from the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana. She is currently employed at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design, University of Ljubljana, as a Professor of Printmaking. She has been exhibiting her work in solo exhibitions since 1985 and has participated in numerous group exhibitions in Slovenia and abroad. She has received several international awards. In 2016, she was awarded the Župančič Award for her artistic achievements, and in 2023 she received the Ivana Kobilca Lifetime Achievement Award. Her works are included in the permanent collections of Albertina in Vienna (Austria), the Fond National d’Art Contemporain in Paris (France), the Museum of Contemporary Art Metelkova in Ljubljana, the Jane Voorhees Zimmerli Art Museum, the International Centre of Graphic Arts in Ljubljana, the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York (USA). She has published several artist’s books, including Album (1995), Magazine (Revija, 2000), Nothing Special (Nič posebnega, 2007), The First Cut Hurts the Most (Prva praska najbolj boli, 2011), Mistakes (Napake, 2012), and Zora Was Here (2015), published in the Ljubljana Personally series issued by the Association of Slovenian Visual Artists Societies.
