Production: Ana Čigon, 2007
Video is author's intimate tale set in nature and author's living space. This non-narrative piece makes driving on a foggy road, outlines and shadows seem like a dream. Melancholic soundtrack is becoming more and more positive and upbeat towards...
Ana Čigon (1982) received a B.A. in Painting and a Master’s Degree in Video at the Ljubljana Academy of Fine Arts and Design. She received a M.A. also in Interface Cultures at the University of Art and Design Linz (Kunstuniversität Linz). She is active in video, film and performance. Her documentary films mostly address feminist and social issues. Beside the production of documentary films, she is active also in performance and art video, either in frame of theatre or contemporary visual arts. She has presented her works in solo and group exhibitions in Slovenia and internationally and received awards and nominations for her video works.
Apart from exploring the characteristics of individual media and the possibilities of their integration, Čigon discusses also the position of contemporary art and its presentation. She tackles feminist topics, especially the issue of under-representation of female artists and female historic figures in general. Her interest in social issues and the role of women in the society has produced a number of works that question the patterns of historicization of art and works that explore public monuments, and how and by whom through them a certain kind of history is being constructed. In her artistic practice, a performative aspect is intense, either in the situation itself or in the action in which she is occasionally present as a performer.
